Tales of axe-wielders of Abalathia and the Azim Steppe often tell of a rage that broils within each warrior, a fury that could be augmented and weaponized to their own benefit. Known as the Inner Beast or the Will of Qeresh, this phenomenon stained the reputation of these fiercesome fighters, shunning the fighting style until it has become faded to most of the star.This anomaly can be found in Rifra, the Warrior of Light. Its seeds planted in her soul as she escaped the Garleans sent to take her away, it first manifested itself after the massacre of the Waking Sands. Through Curious Gorge's guidance, the viera was able to learn how to harness his anger into a weapon as well as calm the beast within.After its manifestation, however, Rifra slowly developed a stronger craving for meat, for blood, and the hunger became proportionate to her bloodlust. After certain skirmishes, especially those against Garlean troops, the Warrior of Light could be found consuming pieces of rare meat, sometimes the blood still dripping off of them.Despite his warrior training from Curious Gorge and learning meditation from Lyse and Gosetsu in their respective fighting styles, the only way to satiate his bloodlust when emotions are high is through human blood, even flesh at its worst, yet each consumption only leads to the unification of man and beast.There is no telling when Rifra would fall to his carnal desires with no way to turn back.

Aboard the ship heading towards Limsa Lominsa, Rifra took the opportunity to cut and dye her hair, a way for her to hide herself from any Garlean connection that she could run into. Regardless of how far she was from Dalmasca and the stationed Garlean troops, Rifra didn't want to risk anything. Concerns for her village weighed heavy, especially for the little sister she left behind, as they were bound to suffer consequences for her escape.As she approached the Adventurer's Guild at the Drowning Wench, Rifra made herself known as a man named Seren Einar, a newfound adventurer. Upon adopting the name, he vowed to become stronger to be able to face Garlemald and take the empire down.Picking up the axe from the Marauder's Guild, his feats became known to Merlwyb, prompting him to become the Limsa Lominsan envoy. One quest after another, the man known as Seren caught the interest of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, where the leader Minfilia reveals to him the power that he wielded: the Echo. With its protection, he is able to take down one primal after another, increasing his renown.The anger he bore towards Garleans only grew as he found the corpses of the majority of the Scions after defeating Titan. The rage gave rise to a beastly presence within, threatening to emerge should she lose control of his emotions. He sought out the roegadyn Curious Gorge, who knew the ways of Abalathian warriors, in hopes of learning how to control himself.Before appealing for Ishgard's aid to retrieve Garlean Cid Garlond's The Enterprise (much to his reluctance), Seren decided to investigate the Lancer's Guild, curious about Gridanian lancer techniques to compare with those from his home. There, impressed by his unique techniques that he thought was reminiscent of Ishgardian dragoons, the guildmaster Ywain requested him to assist his friend Alberic in tracking down Estinien, the Azure Dragoon. There he resonated with the Eye of Nidhogg, marking himi as another Azure Dragoon. Thanks to the Inner Beast, however, he was able to resist Nidhogg's influence.Once Gaius's Ultima Weapon consumed the three primals Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda and Minfilia was rescued, Seren threw himself into doing whatever he could for Operation Archon, the rage towards Garleans hungry to be sated. Leading a charge of adventurers into Praetorium, he left carnage in his wake, painting the facilities red with Garlean blood, Gaius escaping with his life thanks to Lahabrea's interference. The adventurers that partied with him chose to remain quiet of the true nature of the brutality their witnessed, afraid of what might happen if he was confronted. The Garlean troops that survived the invasion of Praetorium would return to their motherland, spreading word of the "Butcher of Eorzea".A banquet meant to welcome Ishgard into the Eorzean alliance spelled tragedy as Seren was accused of regicide. With the sacrifice of the rest of the Scions, he, Alphinaud, and Tataru make their way to Ishgard...

Once partnered with Estinien to find Iceheart, the Warrior of Light picked up the lance once more, aiming to fight for Ishgard with their dragoon arts.The party arrives at Zenith, where Hraesvelgr reveals the truth behind the Dragonsong War, where it was the Ishgardians led by King Thordan I that broke the peace between dragon and man. Feeling betrayed by those he trusted yet again and frustrated at Hraesvelgr's unwillingness to get involved, Seren alongside Estinien go to the Aery to slay Nidhogg, only to discover that the fell wyrm was host to Hraesvelgr's missing eye.Having been deceived by both sides, Seren contemplates on leaving the war completely, but decides to continue as it would only go on as long as Nidhogg was alive. Rage churning ever further upon hearing that Aymeric was taken prisoner by the Archbishop, Seren, Haurchefant, and others invade the Vault.

Ten summers older than Rifra, Mjara is wise beyond her still young vieran age. Having been chosen to leave the village several summers prior to Rifra, she was taken and forced to act as an Garlean soldier due to her sharp marksmanship. Once Garlemald's hold on Dalmasca began to waver, Mjara took the opportunity to find her youngest sister Nojra and rescue her.If there was anyone Rifra turned to for advice, it was Mjara, and the summers without her guidance was difficult on the Warrior of Light.

Treasured little sister

Eight summers younger
than Rifra, Nojra is naive with a sense of whimsy to her nature. As consequence for Rifra escaping, she and the rest of her village were taken captive and kept as servants for the Garlean troops stationed around Dalmasca. After getting rescued by Mjara, the two join the Bozjan Resistance and reunite with their long lost sister.Guilt-ridden for abandoning her as she escaped, Rifra spoils her little sister every chance she could, from gifting her souvenirs of her travels to sharing the heroic tales bards would sing about her.
